A little two-inputs FxTree plug-in to test…

I”ve made a little fxtree plug-in that implements photoshop blending modes

It needs a little bit of testing, and works with either XSI 4.2 or XSI 5.0.

To Install :

  1. Download PsdBlendBeta.xsiaddon to your hard disk (compiled for Windows only)
  2. Install it, for example by using the AddOn->Install menu in the File Menu.
  3. Restart XSI

Usage :
The plug-in can be found in the Plugins group, probably named “Plugins[U]” (to indicate it’’s in the User location). Connect two images to it. Click and drag in the viewer to set the foreground image offset, or middle-click drag to pan the background. You should be able to post here any problem you encounter with it.

p.s. : Cool people add fxtree operators by clicking them in the Operator Selector, and then middle-clicking several times in the fxtree to chose the 1) first input 2) second input 3) output (if necessary) and finnally middle click in the background to set the insert location. The Fx operator selector shows which connection is currently being selected. Select any optionnal inputs you want to pick by first clicking the checkbox next to it in the Operator Selector

There is also a thread on XSI base

    Howdy Luc-Eric!

Many thanks for putting this together… I have one question though– after installing the addon, I”m not sure how to pull this node into the FXTree.

As far as I can tell, the addon has added a PsdBlendBeta folder into my C:\users\[username]\XSI_5.0\Addons directory. The only file inside (despite several folder structures) is a PsdBlend.dll.

I can”t drag & drop this dll into an FXTree view.

Dumb question: How can I access this node?

    Thanks again!

    Brian.

The addon installs something like softimage\XSI_xx\Addons\PsdBlendBeta\fx\ufo\psdblend.dll

After restarting XSI, the plug-in should be availble directly from the menu of the fxtree, or in the operator selector, in a group called “Plugins[U]“. Tell me if this doesn”t work

FANTASTIC! This is perfect, Luc-Eric…! The plug-in works like a charm. I don”t know why I never noticed the “Plugins” group in the FxOperator window before… must be early senility seeping in.

PsdBlend certainly is much much easier than decrypting the syntax for the pixel parser. ; )

Thanks for this– keep up the awesome work!

    Brian.

    hello luc eric
this is a nice addition to the fxtree and is quite useful.
it would be nice to have a linux version of the ufo , for the linux people and renderfarms out there.

Hi, I would love to use this plugin and installs fine for a User Addon.
When I install as a Workgroup Addon though, I can”t see it.

Do you have any idea how I might get it to install for a workgoup?

    Many thanks,

    Adam.

  6. Luc-Eric Says:

I”ve checked the code and for the fxtree to find addon in the workgroup, they
need to placed in a specific folder in the workgroup :
    \Application\fx

    for example:
    S:\workgroup\Application\fx\PsdBlendBeta\fx\ufos\PsdBlend.dll
